L.P. Stanley

L.P. (Lane) Stanley was born not quite halfway through the previous century, one of the earlier babies to be boomed. The son of an itinerant social worker, he grew up in various parts of Canada, the United States, and Australia.

An early interest in science, history, and languages led to an eclectic education and then to a teaching post among the Cree and Inuit of Hudson’s Bay. He still owns a beaver hat handmade by the wife of the man who trapped the beaver and fed it to his family. (Beaver is cooked by hanging it on a rope over an open fire. Dibs on the tail, yum-yum!)

The village was eventually flooded out by a hydroelectric reservoir, the people scattered, and Lane moved on, taking up a position in the Faculty of Education at the University of Saskatchewan. Here he disappeared into a library and has never really come out again, emerging once about fifteen years ago to change libraries. He currently lives in Whitby, Ontario, with his wife and two cats.
